The Epic Instructional Design/Trainer will work in collaboration with the Epic application teams, clinical/business operations and other trainers to develop training curriculum, operational scenarios and/or clinical simulations within the Epic training environments for the multiple locations including Benioff Children's Hospitals-Oakland and San Francisco, UCSF Medical Centers, UCSF campus, and community connect partners. This involves the design, building, testing, and implementation of clinical application systems, through the use of application training environments. Provides support to users through knowledge of clinical processes, documentation needs, workflows, and clinical practice standards, when adapting software to meet their needs. Works with clinicians to create or adapt written protocols.Provides customer service, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Inherent with these key responsibilities is the ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and meet any imposed deadlines. As training will be role based, it is essential that the Instructional Design/Trainer have experience with or the ability to fully grasp workflows, policies/procedures that are clinically, procedural and/or administrative in nature to create operationally focused curriculum/scenarios.
Relative difficulty of the work: Epic Training is technical work and has multiple areas of complexity including keeping up to date on new workflows/build changes, integrating policy & procedure into curriculum, supporting end users and new hires to make sure they can safely use the electronic health record to treat the patients they are serving.
The Epic Instructional Design/Trainer must achieve certification, if not already, (within 6 months of hire) and support one or more of the following Epic applications:
• Certified in an Epic Clinical application. Preferred would be Ambulatory and/or HOD applications.
• Other applications depending on business needs, (list below)
• Complete Epic Training, Environments and Documentation (TED) course
The Epic Instructional Design/Trainer must also achieve credentialing in one or more of the following training areas in order to support ongoing new hire training and other training initiatives:
Epic Clinical Applications: Ambulatory, Orders, ClinDoc, Stork, Willow, Beacon, Kaleidoscope, Radiant, HOD, Home Health
Epic Revenue Cycle Applications: Prelude, ADT/Cadence, HB/PB, HIM, Optime Scheduling
Other Epic applications as needed
Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field, education, computer science, health education, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years experience in a healthcare setting. One year or more of Epic specific training experience and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
Certification: Epic certification and /or ability to complete Epic certification within 6 months of hire. If not Epic certified, must complete the Pre-Epic Sphinx exam.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to work with senior staff and managers, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance. Available for 7x24 application support when indicated. Experience with EMR applications, especially EPIC, preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office instructional tools, Web-based development tools, such as, Captivate/Camtasia and have obtained Epic Application/TED certification while at the same time being familiar with established adult learning principles.
