The Licensed Psychiatric Technician provides hands-on care to patients with varying degrees of mental illnesses and/or developmental disabilities as part of a multidisciplinary team, and in consultation with the supervising nursing and medical team. The Psychiatric Technician performs a vital, front-line function as the incumbent observes, treats and interacts with patients. They carry out doctor and nurse practitioner's orders, serving as the eyes, ears and hands of the diagnosing professional. The technician reports back on how the treatment is working and/or any unusual symptoms that need professional attention. The Psychiatric Technician helps conduct educational, recreational and therapeutic activities. In addition, the Psychiatric Technician is part of both the planning and implementing of patient treatment plans. The technician may interview patients, review and obtain consents, gather assessment information, conduct record-keeping, and assist with medication authorizations and refills.
Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program, or otherwise qualified for California licensure as a Psychiatric Technician.
Minimum Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience in behavioral health setting required. EPSDT documentation knowledge preferred.
License Required: Licensed in the State of California as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician
Certification Required: Current BLS required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (a) Ability to assess, observe and assist with treatment planning needs related to developmental, behavioral, and psychiatric disorders, (b) Ability to refer patients/families to supporting services (i.e. Regional center, School, Therapy, etc) (c) Ability to work with multidisciplinary care team within a hospital and outpatient primary and behavioral health care setting (d) Knowledge of pediatric mental health conditions. (e) Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medications. (f) Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the delivery of mental health services in the State of California. (g) Good observation and writing skills. (h) Detail oriented, self-motivated, good organizational skills. (i) Ability to multi-task in a busy and complex environment. (j) Ability work in a strength based/trauma informed manner. (k) Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Technical Knowledge: (a) Prior experience with electronic medical records preferred. (b) Ability to do patient vitals and document in electronic health record

Lift/Push/Pull: 25 lbs, over 25# with assistance or equipment
