Position Summary:  
Senior Finance and Operations Analyst provides financial and operational support to the KQED Content Division.  The focus of this role is budgeting and forecasting within parts of the Content division. In addition, the Senior Finance and Operations Analyst is responsible for related processes and operational support for Content including contracting and financial reporting.  This position works in partnership with the KQED Finance, HR, Legal, and Development departments. The Senior Finance and Operations Analyst is responsible for consulting with department managers on the impact of budgetary decisions, and recommending solutions or alternatives.

Essential Functions:

  1. For your assigned portfolio, develop annual budgets with responsible department and project heads.  Maintain monthly financial forecast in SAP with clients, and ensure that the forecast complies with GAAP.  Monitor resources utilized by each department, and consult and advise managers accordingly. 

  2. Prepare grant budget proposals and reports.  Ensure compliance with grant contracts, and local, state and federal requirements as needed.  Report to appropriate staff on the financial expenditure of all grants.  Prepare final grant budget reports and ensure financial reporting is accurate, complete and submitted on time.  Serve as financial liaison with the development and fundraising divisions for your departments.

  3. Provide the Director, Production Finance and designated department managers with regular variance analysis of actual spend versus budget and forecast.  Solicit input for additional material changes to operating plans that need to be reflected in the forecast. Comply with the finance closing schedule regarding snapshot and analysis deadlines.

  4. Initiate contracts as needed and ensure all contracts are approved by Legal in conformance with established policies.  Understand the terms and financial implications of all contracts. 

  5. For employment activity (hiring, separation, promotion, department changes, etc), coordinate with HR and Payroll to ensure proper coding in HCM system and that related dollar amounts are properly forecasted within SAP.

  6. Create purchase orders and ensure that invoices comport with any contractual terms.  Work with the Finance Associate to provide support services to your assigned portfolio of departments and projects.

  7. Prepare journal entries and accruals as needed.

Credentials/Education Required:

  • BA Degree in Finance/Accounting field preferred
  • At least 2-3 years relevant experience in budget/financial management

Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • 3-4 years proven experience with financial accounting and forecasting systems with the ability and willingness to learn and change as needed

  • Previous experience with accounting fundamentals & GAAP

  • Knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable

  • Demonstrated, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated, excellent oral and written communication skills with a customer service orientation

  • Demonstrated, excellent skills in the Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Works collaboratively in a team environment

  • Ability to coordinate information with various departments and divisions

Knowledge/Experience Desired:

  • Experience in broadcasting, media, technology or construction industries strongly preferred
  • Experience in production management a bonus.
  • Familiarity with SAP BPC and/or Microsoft Business Dynamics (Navision) or other ERP systems preferred
  • Experience in non-profit business preferred
  • Degree or certificate in Business, Finance or Accounting disciplines preferred
