Job Summary
UCSF is seeking a Senior Web Developer who will help build a modern web development stack and elevate the digital experience for our community of philanthropic donors, alumni, and friends - a community that generates substantial private support for breakthrough research, lifesaving clinical care, and top-tier public medical and health sciences education.

Working within University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR), one of the top public university fundraising organizations in the country, the Senior Web Developer is part of a dynamic team responsible for digital applications and integrations in support of the goals of UDAR and campus-wide digital fundraising priorities.

Under the supervision of the Advancement Communications, Digital Director, the individual will use advanced applications programming concepts to develop complex database driven web applications and conduct maintenance of web properties within the department. This includes such media as web and database applications, online giving services, content management systems, and electronic communications.

This position will also have a strong role in defining an integration stack that leverages available APIs and web services that connect to a variety of CMS sources, user authentication systems, CRM tools (Salesforce), and other solutions with available API endpoints.

Some properties that the individual will help manage includes public facing websites such as our online giving processing site at,, the Campaign web site, and other department Drupal assets. This position may also consult on the development of other campus websites.

The UCSF Foundation and the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) are responsible for fostering and strengthening campus outreach efforts to UCSF constituents and for garnering private support for the campus. In raising private support, UDAR identifies, qualifies, solicits and stewards donors for the schools, medical center, departments and programs on campus; accepts and administers all private gifts to the university through the Regents or the UCSF Foundation; and manages all alumni relations activities, campus support group activities and campus events. UDAR is also responsible for the design and implementation of fundraising campaigns for UCSF.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• At least five to eight years’ of relevant experience
• Advanced knowledge of secure software development
• Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts. Strong experience in analyzing user requirements, designing new systems, business process improvement, programming, and managing database driven web applications
• Advanced experience working with REST APIs, JSON and SOAP
• Strong knowledge of core web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
• Demonstrable Ecommerce development including web / data security best practice (as it pertains to PCI standards)
• Strong understanding of responsive design and mobile first development best practices
• Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans
• One of the most difficult aspects of this position is to understand our fundraising business operations and our CRM application capabilities, to ensure that applications accurately reflect the user’s requirements. The individual must be able to learn and understand complex fundraising concepts and practices as well as the UDAR policies and procedures and implement them in designing new applications
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization
• Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines
• Demonstrated complex problem- solving skills

Preferred Qualifications
• Salesforce Developer Certification
• Advanced experience in developing and configuring on the Salesforce platform
• Knowledge of Angular / Vue / React frameworks or modern equivalent
• Experience with Drupal development or equivalent CMS
• Experience with online web form development
• Experience in developing and configuring Salesforce Marketing Cloud
• Experience developing and executing complex test plans
• Excellent project leadership and management skills
