Job Summary
JOB OVERVIEW
The Staff Research Associate I (SRA I) is a laboratory-based position in a group focused on translational research investigating mechanisms of airway disease using both clinical samples from research subjects as well as primary human tissue cultured and manipulated ex vivo. The individual employed will be responsible for the processing of biospecimens collected during research bronchoscopy and in the operating room, especially samples of mucosal biopsies and epithelial brushings. Under direct supervision the employee will be required to fix and embed human airway tissues, cut sections of tissue from paraffin or frozen blocks, and perform immunohistochemistry, microscopy and photomicroscopy.

The SRA I will also be responsible for processing samples of induced sputum and blood. Extraction of RNA, DNA and protein will also be required. The individual will be performing tissue culture of primary human epithelial cells and cell lines. Additional tasks may include but will not be limited to qPCR, western blotting, immunoassays (e.g. ELISAs) as well as Lentiviral propagation and CRISPR-Cas9 genetic manipulation.

Required Qualifications
• BA/BS degree in molecular biology or related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Familiarity in a bench laboratory with basic laboratory procedures such as weighing, pipetting, culturing cells, doing protein assays and PCR
• Ability to follow protocols exactly, communicate with supervisor effectively regarding work details and work with attention to detail
• Ability to work with techniques and methods required by the position, including PCR, cell culture, and processing human biospecimens (blood, sputum, or biopsies)
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently and take initiative in solving problems; communication and organizational skills; attention to detail; ability to multitask effectively; excellent demonstrated record of attendance and punctuality; ability to adhere to all campus safety policies
